Christmas Eve
Isaiah 7:14
In the fullness of time the Lord God fulfilled His promise to provide a Savior to His people! The Messiah is here. Jesus is born in Bethlehem. God is with us.
Fourth Sunday in Advent
Luke 1:38
The Angel Gabriel told Mary that the Lord had chosen her to be the Mother of God’s Eternal Son. She quietly placed herself at God’s entire disposal. Oh that we were as amenable to God’s hints to serve!
Third Sunday in Advent
Isaiah 61:1-3
Freed from the captivity of sin and death, the church is now enabled to do things for her Lord and Savior. Isaiah enumerates the various facets of the work of God’s anointed which is now to be carried out through the Church.
Second Sunday in Advent
Isaiah 40:1,2
The People of God in the world live in constant stress. Sin surrounds us and is within us. Nothing is level, nothing is perfect, but, through the Church, the people are assured that their sins are forgiven.
First Sunday in Advent
Isaiah 64:1-8
Isaiah echoes the cry of the Christian church in the sinful world: “O that you would rend the heavens and come down!” Jesus did just that. Meanwhile we suffer, but are comforted by knowing God as our Father.
