A Forty Day Journey
On Ash Wednesday the church invites us to go on a journey of forty days with Jesus. It is a journey to the cross. He urges us to be sincere and truthful in our relationship with God. May we be enriched spiritually this Lent.

Jesus went on a mountain. He took along Peter, James, and John. There He showed them a glimpse of heaven. Peter was so impressed he wanted to stay there. Then God appeared in a cloud and spoke. Heaven is beyond our reason.
Jesus moved from town to town in Galilee. Wherever He went, people brought their sick to Him. He healed them all. So it is today. Wherever Jesus is, there is healing. His death and resurrection in our place heals us from sin.
People were in awe seeing and hearing Jesus teach in the synagogue. He taught with authority. Then He expelled a demon from a possessed man and His fame grew throughout the land. Epiphany was happening!
It isn’t easy to get people’s immediate and undivided attention. But if we are in a store and hear, “Your attention, please,” we stop and listen. There is a sense of immediacy in many of God’s messages in the Bible. Christ’s call to discipleship is urgent and asks for total commitment. Christ’s mission is urgent.
As you can see, the color of the altar paraments is green. Green symbolizes growth. The Epiphany season focuses on the growth of the church. We promote this growth by going into all nations and proclaiming the Gospel.
